  • Ironworking had been a feature of Ebbw Vale since the 18th century and, following a major rebuilding project in the late 1930s, Ebbw Vale steelworks became the first works in the country to integrate both iron and steel production. It closed in 1970, with many of the buildings in this photograph being demolished in 1979.

  • The Lido at Ebbw Vale was built in 1930 by unemployed men who volunteered for the task. It closed in 1961 to be replaced by an indoor swimming pool.
