  • This aerial view shows early mineral workings north of Brynmawr at Clydach Terrace. On the left-hand side of the photograph are early ironstone workings with, nearer the Heads of the Valleys Road (just visible in the top-right corner of the photograph), a mixture of ironstone and coal workings. The crescent-shaped trench between the two is the remains of early open mining along a five-feet coal seam.
