It is thought that the Roman fort at Caerhun, which the Romans called Canovium, was originally constructed in earth and timber c. AD 80 and that it was continuously held until c.AD 105-110 when it was rebuilt in stone. After this period, the fort was only partially occupied. In the later years of the second century the fort was destroyed by fire. The site was excavated during the 1920s and detailed excavation reports are to be found in 'Archaeologia Cambrensis' (1926-31).

This theme contains some of the archaeological finds from the site which are now displayed at Llandudno Museum.
