Newport Transporter Bridge was designed by the Frenchman, Ferdinand Arnodin. The bridge was officially opened in 1906 by Lord Tredegar. It measures 196 metres (645 feet) across, and has a headroom of 54 metres (177 feet). The bridge can carry up to six cars and 120 people across the river Usk. The bridge was fully refurbished in the early 1990s and is now in full working order and open to the public.
