Faenol Fawr was built in 1597 by John Lloyd, registrar at St. Asaph, but has undergone a great deal of restoration since that date. Some of its distinctive features include the stepped gable dormers. Today the entrance and passage are at the parlour end, but it is doubtful whether this was the original layout. A drawing by the artist Moses Griffith c. 1770 shows the entrance in a central postion.
