  • In August 1958 the remains of 'Brymbo Beaker Man' were discovered in a burial cist at Brymbo, near Wrexham. The cist measured 96.25cm x 78.75cm and was covered by a large sandstone capstone. The incomplete human skeleton found inside was that of an early Bronze Age male. 'Brymbo Man', as he became known, is Wrexham's oldest resident, some 3,500 years old. Archaeologists believe he was 173 cms (5 feet 8 inches) tall and aged between 35 and 40 years. He was found with a flint knife and an earthenware beaker which had been buried with him. The find was taken to the National Museum in Cardiff until May 1998 when it was returned to Wrexham. In 2001 Manchester University produced a wax model reconstruction of the skull which can also be seen in the galleries of Wrexham Museum.

  • This fine example of a glazed tile porch was rescued, conserved and reconstructed in eight sections by Heritage Tile Conservation Ltd in 1989. The building, which was due for demolition, was originally the manager's office at J. C. Edwards's Tref-y-nant brickworks, Acrefair, just outside Wrexham. It represents the richness and splendour of the terracotta industry in the early twentieth century.

James Coater Edwards (1828-96) followed his father into the clay business and his company - J. C. Edwards & Co. of Acrefair - had works on three sites: The Albert Works, Rhosllannerchrugog (brick production), the Pen-y-bont works at Newbridge (clay) and the Tref-y-nant Works (decorative tiles). Edwards was once described as 'perhaps the most successful producer of terracotta in the world' and exported tiles all over the globe. The company was sold in 1956.

  • This carved wooden greyhound is one of four which originally sat on top of the gateway to Acton Park, Wrexham. The gateway was built in 1820 and the four dogs were carved by James Edwards of Lavister. The original tail was made of metal and was attached to the wooden body of the dog.

The greyhound used to sit on top of the coat of arms of the Cunliffe family who owned Acton Park throughout the nineteenth century. The Cunliffe family lived in Acton Hall which was situated in the grounds of Acton Park. The dog was christened 'Quercus' by the pupils of Acton Park School - Quercus is the Latin name for the oak family of trees.

He later founded a shoe manufacturing and retailing business on Town Hill. At one time William Dodman claimed to be selling over 600 pairs of wooden clogs each week and during the Second World War he won a contract to repair the boots of American servicemen stationed in the Wrexham area.
