  • This certificate testifies that John Jones was promoted to St. II  [Standard II], Dinmael Board School on 1 July 1901.  The certificate has been  signed by D. H. Howell, Master.

  • This certificate was presented to Lily Jones, a pupil at Llanfairfechan Girls School, on her departure from the school on 20 October 1911.  The attached note, which is signed by Elizabeth Owen, the head teacher, reads as follows:

'Presented to Lily Jones, Oct 20 1911 upon her leaving school.  She has been clean, obedient, regular & industrious.  Her conduct has been excellent.'

  • Charlotte Guest (1812-95) was the wife of John Josiah Guest, the Dowlais iron master.  Although she enjoyed a luxurious life style as a result of her family's industry she is best remembered for her philanthropic concerns for the workers in the area.  This testimonial scholarship is evidence of her involvement in public works.

The certificate records an award of £1 to 12 year old William Pierce Morgan for proficiency in reading, writing, arithmetic, grammar, geography and scripture.

  • A first class scholar's certificate for religious knowledge awarded by the St Asaph Diocesan Board of Education to a pupil attending Guilsfield National School near Welshpool in 1897. First, second, and third class certificates were awarded, a mark of the importance attached to the teaching of the subject in National or Anglican church schools in the Victorian years.
