  • William Bowen Stephens was brought up in Parc y Lan public house, Llanddewi Velfrey. He attended Narberth County Intermediate School from 1909 to 1913, and took an active interest in musical work in connection with Llanddewi Velfrey Church, of which he was a communicant. Prior to joining up, he was a student at Carmarthen Training College. Stephens went missing on 18 April 1917, two days after writing his last letter home.
