  • The first pension was introduced by David Lloyd George in 1911.  Mr Thomas Thomas, a blacksmith of Gwyddelwern, Merionethshire, was the first in Wales to be paid the old age pension.  Mr Thomas is shown here alongside the five shilling piece he received.
