Taff Merthyr Colliery
North head-gear, Cefn Coed Colliery
  • This view shows the retaining wall upon which the colliery was built. Beyond this are the north and south head-gears, the boiler stack and main buildings.

  • The large buildings in this view are the electrical store, compressor house and the winding engine house.  In the centre is the stack from the boiler house, and to the left is the north head-gear.

  • The north head-frame, in the foreground, contained a ventilator fan that sucked the air out of the mine. The down-shaft, beneath the south head-frame, allowed air to be sucked in.
