'Richard Lloyd' [uncle of David Lloyd George] by Christopher Williams, 1911 Richard Lloyd (1834-1917) was David Lloyd George's uncle, the brother of Lloyd George's mother. Following his father's death in 1864, David Lloyd George moved from Manchester with his pregnant mother and sister to live with 'Uncle Lloyd' in Highgate, Llanystumdwy, Caernarfonshire. Richard Lloyd was a shoemaker in the village and a leading figure in the religious and social life of the community. He played an influential role in the education and upbringing of his young nephew and is widely regarded as Lloyd George's mentor.
