  • An early bill from one of the many ancient inns of Welshpool.  This was the Oak Inn, which later became the Royal Oak, supposedly because local Jacobite supporters held meetings there.  The finely decorated bill, featuring the king hiding in an oak tree, advertises 'neat post-chaises' and the itemised headings include 'Servants eating' and 'Ditto's liquor'.
