  • A tonsured Prior, turned to the left, holding a book in his left hand and a scroll in his right.
Impression from the seal of the Benedictine Priory of St Michael, Ewenni (Ogmore), 14th century
  • This seal impression shows the Virgin Mary wearing a crown, and with Jesus in her left arm, and a rose-topped sceptre in her right. The shields beside her belong to the Clare's (later lords of Glamorgan and patrons of the Abbey).
Impression from the second common seal of Margam Abbey, mid-14th century until 1536
  • This ecclesiastical seal shows the abbot of Talley but it presents a historical problem. There is no evidence that the abbots were granted the right to wear mitres (the cleft head-dress) as seen on the seal, however, it is possible that the seal is recording the memory of Abbot Iorwerth who, in 1215, became bishop of St Davids.
