Llew Jones (1915-) was born in Pentre-cwrt, near Llandysul, and worked as a teacher before become a full-time writer. He won the chair at the National Eisteddfod in 1958 and 1959. He is the author of over fifty books, and is best-known as a writer of Welsh-language children's books, both prose and fiction. Many of his most popular novels are based on historical characters and events and include, 'Corn, Pistol a Chwip' (1969), 'Barti Ddu' (1973), 'Un Noson Dywyll' (1973), 'Tân ar y Comin' (1975) and 'Lleuad yn Olau' (1989).
