Account by Dic Aberdaron of his attempts to obtain poor relief in Liverpool, 1841-2 and linguistic notes [image 2 of 4] Transcription (continued): '... while at St John's Lane by the Aumonier's Inquisitors, about one of clock afternoon the Inquistors sent me up before the Aumonier en Chef for to receive my sentence who forthwith us soon as he uttered his fatal provident decree sentenced me to starvation. No poor or distressed person is relieved in St John's Lane however miserable he may appear in sight of men without being first most rigourously and diligently questioned and examined by the inquisitors, inquisitors doctors &c; for this purpose they always have ready at hand their Inquistion notes are called. Big notes, and their written inquisition notes written in the inquisition court office by the inquisitors, or their clerks are called small notes. With this kind of men my fate was to contend for my life in Liverpool who never neglect to do their duty when they question or torture the helpless poor though for the sake of a morsel of bread only, which the diligent Inquisitor often deny when he had received it doubly and a gratis gift from his friends and neighbours &tc. Richard Robert Jones J. Shaw, Aumonier Inquisiteur Richard Robert Jones.'
