Brown corded velvet coat from Newport, 1770-80 [image 1 of 2] This is a cutaway coat, with stand-up collar, pleated skirts and a slit at the back. It is decorated with silk and metal thread embroidery at the front edges and on the cuffs, pockets, rear slit and collar, with elaborate floral and leaf motifs.
