I had said before starting out that I would not mind if we stayed around for a fortnight, but by now I have changed my mind completely, and I would like to leave on Monday, even though I am not paying anything for my accommodation, all I can think about now is arriving at Queensland. We got to know three South Walians, who came to the House last night, and we spent the afternoon with them. • Humphrey describes his visit to the Crystal Palace exhibition. He says that he 'never saw anything so grand' in his life, even though it is far from being completed. A railway takes the visitor to an extended wing of the building. He describes the scene as bewildering and goes on to list the various exhibits which are to be seen.

  • Humphrey continues with his description of the exhibits at the Crystal Palace exhibition. The people and animals of the world are all to be seen, including the North American Indians, 'bears and dogs and animals that inhabit the Artic regions'. There are numerous statutes, busts and models to be seen.

  • Humphrey continues with his description of the exhibits at the Crystal Palace exhibition. He describes the representations of Egyptian, Grecian and Roman courts. In his opinion, the climax of the exhibition is the 'Alahambra' - 'I was perfectly thunderstruck with the beauty of the place'.
