  • Street parties became popular in Britain following the end of the Great War in 1918. They bacame almost a traditional method of celebrating public occasions such as coronations, jubilees and victories in war. They are often spontaneous affairs, with the residents of each street, or group of streets, donating money, foodstuffs and decorations, as well as providing entertainment. They are truly an occasion for the whole community, though they are less popular today than they were in the past.
