  • Open shelving such as this was used in halls for the display of drinking vessels and plates. This example was once at Maesrhyddid mansion, Blackwood, Monmouthshire.

  • These type of decorative open shelves would have been made during the seventeenth century and used to hold glass drinking vessels or other wares. The shelves would have been hung either in the hall or the best chamber. Although it is not known where this particular piece was produced, it was part of the furnishings of St Fagans Castle from the mid-nineteenth century onwards.
