Baseball and rounders

Baseball is usually associated with the United States, but a British variation of the sport has existed since 1892. In that year, the English and Welsh governing bodies changed the name of the sport from ‘rounders’, a bat-and-ball game which had been popular in several parts of the United Kingdom during the 19th century. In fact, it is claimed that there are references to ‘base ball’ being played in the United Kingdom as early as 1744.
The rules of the game were not formalised until the 20th century and the first international match between Wales and England was played in Cardiff in 1908.
