  • The Ministry of Munitions was established in June 1915 to address the growing problem of munitions shortages affecting British front line troops during the First World War.  David Lloyd George was appointed the first Minister of Munitions in 1915.  In 1916 he was appointed Secretary of State for War before being elected Prime Minister on 7 December 1916.
