Peace proclamation in Cardigan, 1919
  • This photograph shows the crowd at Menai Bridge which had assembled to mark the Peace Day celebrations of 19 July 1919.  Members of the Armed Services were prominent among the crowd.  A United Thanksgiving Service was conducted by the rector and Rev. J. Charles Williams who can be seen addressing the meeting in his black ceremonial robes.  The following note was written on the back of the photograph:
'It was a most impressive & moving occasion as the people believed they had emerged triumphantly from a
Peace Day Meeting, Menai Bridge, 19 July 1919
