  • One of several postcards sent to Elliott Town Mixed & Infants School, New Tredegar, by servicemen during the Second World War.  These postcards were acknowledgements of gifts of cigarettes etc. sent by schoolchildren to men on active service, and featured heroic deeds accomplished by British servicemen and women during the conflict.

  • The Women's Auxiliary Police Corps was formed in 1939, and its members were afforded no police powers, but employed to take on clerical and driving duties. When the Corps was disbanded in 1946 many of its members applied to join the regular police force.
